Oakley City Manager Set to Receive 3% Pay Raise

by ECT

At the upcoming Oakley City Council Meeting on November 14, the City Council will decide on whether or not to approve a raise for City Manager Bryan Montgomery.

According to the staff report, Agenda Item 3.7 in the Consent Calendar, this Amendment to the City Manager’s contract would increase his salary by three (3%) percent, which according to Finance Director Deborah Sultan, is the CPI  adjustment for our area.

If the council approves the raise, Montgomery would receive it immediately and retroactive to July 31, 2017. His monthly salary would be $19,188–or $230,256 annually.

The Staff Report also added that this increase will result in a City Manager salary that is still below the average salary paid to other Contra Costa County city managers. That average is $235,445 annually. In comparison, in March, the City of Antioch hired acting City Manager Ron Bernal at a salary of $216,552 in base pay while Brentwood City Manager Gus Vina has an annual salary of $251,075.35.

This will be the 8th amendment to his contract after he was first hired in December of 2005.

A joke on the residents of Oakley. The vote should be no.

Well at least they made it public for us to comment on rather than try and just “slip it thru the cracks” like when they tried to pay off his upside down mortgage with public funds back in 2011.

Bryan is an amazing human being, a city manager that is deserving to be paid equal to the other city managers in our county. A kind hearted, charitable man. Good for you brother Montgomery!

People have absolutely no concept what intake to run a city’s administration. Any city! It’s not an 8-5 M-F job. His days are often 10-12 hours long, weekend days. Under pay a city manager and see what happens, you won’t get a dedicated worker like he is. He could have gone elsewhere for more money, but he has stayed to finish what he started.

Good GOD, Steve! Most MD’s aren’t getting close to a quarter of a million per year and they SAVE LIVES!!! This is total insanity! If this guy’s salary is “below” those of other city managers, then those people are being paid WAY TOO MUCH! These are our tax dollars the city council is obsconding with! This guy will probably wind up with millions of dollars in retirement pay over the years he’s still above-the-sod! Many people work longer than 12 hour days AND weekends! This is not beyond human capabilities.

How hard can this be. Not sure where our town is headed under his leadership. Still no major retail that contributes needed sales tax dollars to pay for our continued expansion and service needs. The last major project I’m reading about is the Islamic center proposed for The 14 acres on Neroly at Oakley Rd.

A small city of this size does not command that type of salary. The way this city is run it’s just one more screw up to add to the long list of wrongs I’ve seen so far. I wish someone would show me how he earned this. Downtown Oakley is a disgrace

Of course, he deserves a raise after his shady performance.
