Oakley City Council Selects Doug Hardcastle as Next Mayor

by ECT

The Oakley City Council selected Doug Hardcastle to serve as its 2015 Mayor after serving as Oakley’s vice-mayor this past year. Councilman Kevin Romick was selected as the vice mayor for 2015.

Oakley does not have an elected Mayor position, instead, the position rotates between councilmembers each year.

Here are the comments made by Mayor Hardcastle after the selection Tuesday night:

I just want to say thank you for the council and all the people who voted for me and support me. But for those who do not know me on a personal level, I’d like to give you a little insight from my perspective on my goals on the city council and that of the position of mayor.

I’d like to let you know my greatest accomplishment; joy of my life is that of my family. My wife Linda, my daughter Andrea, my son JD, and my grandkids. Without the shared effort of my wife and myself it’s one neither of us could have done one or accomplished on our own to have such a great family that we are very proud of and without the shared effort and gods hand on our lives we would not be who we are today.

Likewise with the city, what we do up here on the council and that with staff is all done with the help of everyone, it’s not a single persons job. None of us can do any of this on our own.

This is the only way that we as a city will grow and continue to be a safe place to raise our family. We are known as the 50th safest city in California. And even with us on the council and that of the staff, of the great staff we have, without your support, without your input to stall the future situations as they rise to keep this city a safe and great place, it won’t continue to happen without everybody’s input.

This is great, if everyone showed up to a City Council meeting like this, there would be a problem we couldn’t answer. I appreciate everyone showing up today and I look forward to hearing from everybody if they have ideas. It’s one thing to listen to somebody, but it’s another thing to hear somebody and what they have to say.

I know with Mayor Pope last year and Mayor Romick the year before, what I plan on doing is showing up at the different shopping centers, Raley’s Lucky’s and our new Grocery Outlet Store I plan to show up once a month for a couple hours to ask questions or have questions asked of me. If I do not have the answers I will bring it back to staff.

Some of my goals for the City of Oakley, we still need to work on our infrastructure. We need to keep our parks safe and clean, continue to see that our fire and police departments have the support from all of us so they can continue so they can keep us in the top 50 cities in California. I am also looking forward in the very near future hopefully to get the development of the 50 acre Parkside over on Emerson Property. That is what I am looking forward to, keep on doing what we are doing. Without everybody’s support and input we can do great things with this city.
