Oakley City Council Candidates Jumps to Six

by ECT

The City of Oakley Council race just got a little tougher for incumbents as former Oakley councilman Brad Nix and newcomer Randi Alder pulled papers yesterday to potentially make a run for Oakley City Council.

So far, there are six who have pulled papers which include current councilmembers Pat Anderson and Kevin Romick.  Newcomers include Doug Hardcastle of Hardcastle RV’s, Dave Hansen of RidgeWater Real Estate Services have shown interest. No one who has pulled papers have submitted their paperwork or qualified as an “official candidate”.

It should be noted Michael Dupray pulled papers, but he has told City Staff that he will not be submitting. I would expect a few more to pull papers by Friday in order to get the required  signatures and paperwork completed by deadline.

The last time Oakley has heard from Brad Nix was a Letter to the Editor in the Brentwood Press which he lied and caused the newspaper to issue a full  correction. His original Letter to the Editor has been removed from the website, but I did correct many of his lies which is still available to read.

Here are the 2008 City Council results which Nix finished 5th.

2008 City Council Results

  • Jim Frazier – 5,655 votes (25.60 %)
  • Kevin Romick – 4,230 votes (19.15%)
  • Pat Anderson – 3,913 votes (17.71%)
  • Rodger McKeaon – 3,635 votes (16.45%)
  • Brad Nix – 3065 votes (13.87%)
  • Bill Caughron – 1,538 votes (6.96%)

Moving onto another candidate who I am not familiar with is Dave Hansen. I have never spoken to him, but I did come across a biography on him via his company website which states the following:

As Co-Owner/Broker of RidgeWater Real Estate Services, I’m also a people person dedicated to excellent personalized service. A Bay Area resident for 35 years, and a Oakley, CA resident for more than 17 years I have a deep understanding of the region and it’s people. I use this understanding to help buyers and sellers alike make real estate decisions that meet their needs in Contra Costa County.

My 27 years as a Pastor, along with my experience as a Police Chaplain for Oakley, Brentwood, and Contra Costa Sheriff’s Departments are my foundation for providing customer service with integrity and compassion.

Married for 30 years and a father and grandfather, I understand the diverse real estate needs of families, first time homebuyers, retirees and others. I work to ensure buyers and sellers benefit from my team player approach to real estate.

Working to meet the needs of my clients is what I enjoy… and I look forward to working with you when it comes to real estate in Contra Costa County!

Finally, we have Randi Alder who had been active in local meetings until she recently lost her husband in a plane crash in May. I’ve been told she has “build up a large war chest” to run for council. It remains to be seen at this point in  if she will be a serious contender for a seat.

Oakley City Council Seeks Applications for Fire Board

From what I have been told this afternoon, no one has applied for the board position, but there has been some interest from about five people with two seats available for appointment.

Applications are available on the City’s website by clicking here at City Hall, or may be requested via email at[email protected]. Completed applications must be submitted prior to 5:00p.m. on August 24, 2012. The applications will be reviewed and finalists will be interviewed by the City Council. It is anticipated that appointments will be made in September, so that the new Board Members can assume office on October 1, 2012

The ECCFPD Board currently meets the first Monday of every month in the evening. There is no compensation provided for Board Members.

Isn’t Randi Alder a bit nutty from here comments made during fire board and past city council meetings? I remember reading a while back she suggested saving $40k on a few million dollar problem. Have fun with that one.

I wont vote for Pat Anderson or Kevin Romick because they supported the Montgomery Bail out. NEVER FORGET!

Jill,

You are an idiot.

Sorry I couldn’t put it any nicer…If I put down what I really thought it would be a poor reflection on both of us.

You haven’t earned the right to say; Never forget. Especially after trashing firemen.

How dare you.

Well said EastCountyReader. I think idiot is a perfect word for Jill.
