This week, the City of Oakley announced they have a brand new Chargepoint electric vehicle charging station in the parking lot at city hall, located at 3231 Main Street.
The city council held a ribbon cutting as the chargers are free and open to the public. They said six more of these EV charging stations will be installed in a new parking lot across the street by the summer time, including their first ADA available charging station.
According to City Manager Josh McMurray, the total cost of the charging stations, the total cost to the City is $35,000, which includes a $7,000 rebate they received from MCE.
“We made the decision to provide the charging stations at no cost until April 30th, and then the cost will be set at $0.30 per kWh, which is essentially our break even cost,” said McMurray. “We have had 12 electric vehicles use the new stations this past week and we expect that to increase as time goes on.”
