Oakley: 8 Students Suffer Health Related Issues During Graduation Rehearsal

by ECT

On Friday, during preparation for graduation, 8 Freedom High School students were treated for illness during rehearsal.

According to Principal Kelly Manke, the 8 students had health related issues, but the cause was not determined. The parents of those students were notified.

At least one student was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but was later released.

Manke highlighted the school has made a series of preparations for the high heat.  The field practice on Thursday was cancelled and instead had the Senior meeting in their multipurpose room. They also moved practice from 10:30 am to 8:00 am.

“Students and staff were provided water. We ran through rehearsal one time and ended by 10:20,” said Manke.

On Saturday, graduation has been moved from 9:00 am to 8:30 am and each student will receive water in the gym on their way out of the gym, and at their seat. They will also have several shade tents for guests as well as one behind the stage for the graduates.

Manke also said that the athletic boosters will be selling waters and Gatorade.

The gates open at 7:30 and the school encourages all guests to drink plenty of water tonight and tomorrow. Each entry must have a ticket. The school will also live stream on the nfhs network (found on our website) for those guests who will not be attending.

So glad to hear they’ve figured out the graduates need bottled water. The year my niece graduated from Freedom they didn’t have enough water bottles (the small bottles), to go around so they told the kids they had to share.
