At 6:23 pm Thursday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District and AMR responded to Edmeades Ct. in Oakley after a child was found in a pool and nearly drowned.
ECCFPD Engine 93 arrived on scene of a 1-year-old near drowning victim. They were advised that the child was found in a pool and was underwater for approximately 1 minute. The child was removed from the pool by a parent who started life saving measures.
E93 began patient care and AMR arrived and assumed patient care and conducted advanced life saving patient care. The patient was then transported by air ambulances to Children’s Hospital in Oakland due to complications from near drowning.
According to the ECCFPD, the child was conscious and breathing at the time of transport.
No further information was provided.
Note: The second engine responding for this incident to prepare the helicopter spot was Station 59 (Discovery Bay) due to other unavailable engines. Photo provided by ECCFPD

Sad to think what would have happened if Engine 93 in Oakley was not available to respond. Discovery Bay to Oakley is not a quick response. After 5 minutes, a person can die if they do not have an airway. The unknown here is how quickly AMR could have gotten there.
Thank God, hopefully he will be just fine. Any question now about whether or not we want any more fire house closures? Sadly, I live on BI and that child may not have survived. It would have taken AT LEAST 10 minutes for help to arrive…Its clear that we don’t matter out here.
sad but true
Thank you to everyone who responded yesterday. This was my son. Scariest moment of my life. He is now doing fine. Flirting with the nurses in the hospital. We may be released today.
Thank god for happy ending and that his ok:).
Big blessings to all parties involved, & prayers to your son & family.
How terribly scary! I’m so grateful we have all the fire departments out there like we do…
My prayers with the family, and I hope he’s ok.
Glad to hear he’s doing better and going home!!!!
