McNerney Holds “Congress At Your Corner” in Antioch

by ECT

Congressman Jerry McNerney held an informal “Congress at your Corner” event at the Antioch Community Center where constituents were able to discuss federal and local issues with the Congressman.

While there were concerns expressed about rising gas prices, Section 8, Antioch Crime and cost of living increases, McNerney was quick to point out the good in Antioch and the potential it has.

“The High School linkage program (Academy for Engineering and Designing a Green Environment (EDGE)) that creates real world is great. When I went to Antioch High School, these kids were sharp and on point. They were impressive and enthused about what they were doing. It was the most impressive thing I’ve seen from a high school,” said McNerney.

He stated locally in Antioch that he sees two major needs which is education and crime prevention.  He also sees the ferry system a positive which will bring more folks downtown.

“I would like to see a waterfront in downtown with a beach and some shops to go along with the ferry,” explained McNerney with enthusiasm. “It would bring a lot of people to Antioch and stimulate the economy.”
