City of Oakley Holds Kid’s Fishing Derby

by ECT

The City of Oakley presents their annual Kids’ Fishing Derby with modifications this year. The derby is for children ages 2 to 15 and there is no fee to register.

For the derby, participants may fish anywhere that is permissible by law between now and Saturday, August 1st. (Children up to age 15 are not required to have a fishing license, anyone over the age of 15 must have the proper license to fish). Before fishing, parents/guardians should visit the Department of Fish and Wildlife website to see rules pertaining to fishing and size restrictions.

Fishing sites include the Antioch/Oakley pier off of Bridgehead Road in Oakley, the Big Break pier at Big Break Regional park in Oakley, lakes or other areas of the delta. Participants are encouraged to observe all COVID-19 health precautions and directives with social distancing, masks and hand washing.

To enter the derby, submit the form found at the link below along with a photo of your fish by Monday, August 3rd. Five winners will be chosen at random and will receive a prize including fishing gear.
