For non-profits in Oakley, I would highly encourage you to make time on Monday to attend this fabulous meeting of non-profit minds. This meeting offers a fabulous networking opportunity while finding ways to leverage relationships to have a greater impact on the community.
Oakley Councilwoman Diane Burgis came up with the idea after seeing many non-profits sharing similar problems and wanted to bring them together to find solutions to those problems. She worked with City Staff to ensure the meetings were implemented. The beauty of these meetings is Burgis removes her council hat and puts on her non-profit hat.
As executive director for the Friends of Marsh Creek Watershed, she knows first hands what non-profits are up against since she has dealt with similar issues in the past. From fundraising to volunteerism, she wants to help others develop leadership skills to find solutions that best fir with their organizations.
“We can become partners and friends to bounce ideas off one another. This can be the speed dating of non-profits,” Burgis said with a laugh.
Having attended the introductory meeting, I can tell you that these meetings are in a relaxed atmosphere, ideas are bounced off one another and participants generally want to help one another.
