After Suffering Severe Burns, Fundraising Efforts Begin for Trevor Gillilan

by ECT

Trevor Gillilan

On Friday August 30th fifteen year old Trevor Gillilan and two of his friends were having a sleep over and decided to have a campfire in the backyard. While the fire was being lit something went terribly wrong and Trevor was severely burned.

Emergency personnel were called and he was immediately airlifted to UC Davis and later transferred to Shriners Hospital in Sacramento.  Trevor has severe burns over 63% of his body and is in the ICU at Shriners Hospital.  He is expected to require up to 4-months in the hospital as he recovers. They are very hopeful that he should regain the mobility in his arms and legs with the expert treatment and therapy provided at Shriners Hospital.

Trevor is a Sophomore at Freedom High School in Oakley and plays baseball. He has played on traveling teams and recently got put on the Varsity Baseball Team at Freedom.  He loves sports, fishing, mountain biking, and he is looking forward to the day he can ride his dirtbike that he got the day before the accident.  Trevor is a described as a kid with a great sense of humor, really good friend and an all-around “good kid”.

Within hours of the accident the community began expressing words of concern, prayers and inquiries on how to help Trevor.

In response to this terrible incident, family and friends are organizing ways to help the Gillilan family.  Trevor’s parents will need to travel back and forth from Oakley and Sacramento and they will need to find lodging.

The donated funds will help pay for gas, food, housing in Sacramento, etc. while Trevor is on the road to recovery to allow for his family to remain by his side.

An account has been set up on http://www.mealtrain.com/?id=mka5dljfp3gt.  This site allows the community to donate money, purchase gas or restaurant gift cards, and to sign up to bring meals to the family when they are back in town.

If you would like to donate online, visit the website to register and all donations are welcome and appreciated.

Friends and family are organizing an even  scheduled for Wednesday September 25th from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.   Brownstone Gardens of Oakley has donated space for a dinner fundraiser. More information will be made available in the coming days.

Trevor’s classmates and teachers are working to help out with the fundraising and are working on ways to help support him and encourage him as he recovers.

We will be sending out more information about the Sept. 25 event and other efforts in the next few days.

A Facebook Page has been set up on Facebook called Trevor Gillilan Fundraiser where you can “like” the page and information should be updated as more details are made available. https://www.facebook.com/TrevorGillilan

Please have the family contact the Kiwanis House of Sacramento, 2875 50th St Sacramento, CA 95817 (916) 736-0116 about possible free lodging. It is much like a McDonald House and Kiwanis Clubs from California, Nevada and Hawaii support this facility. This includes the Kiwanis Club of the Delta-Antioch and the Kiwanis Club of Brentwood!

Hi Martha,
I contacted the Kiwanis Family House in Sacramento last weekend on behalf of the Gillilan family. They have been made aware of the facility and I have passed on all their info to their family who is helping with their living arrangements. Thank you!!
