After 72 Days, Oakley Teen Released From Hospital

by ECT

Trevor Gillilan

According to the Trevor Gillilan Fundraiser page, the Oakley teen that was badly burned in an accident on August 30 has been released from Shriners Hospital nearly six weeks earlier than expected.

On Aug. 30, Gillilan was airlifted to UC Davis with severe burns covering 63% of his body.  He was later transferred to Shriners Hospital in Sacramento to begin working on his recovery where they estimated it would be roughly 4-months of healing.

Gillilan worked hard and recovered rapidly from his wounds and now that he is home his family will now take over care and change his dressings daily and he will continue with physical therapy.

Trevor Update: Saturday, November 9, 2013

We are home! After 72 days away we are finally home! They are calling Trevor a miracle at Shriners because he healed so rapidly. Trevor was discharged from ICU two weeks earlier than expected and discharged from the hospital four weeks earlier than expected, a total of six weeks earlier than they originally projected. For the last two weeks we have been learning how to care for Trevor. He still has some open wounds but has progressed well with his therapy and the staff at Shriners feel we have demonstrated we are capable at taking over his daily dressing changes, scar massage and some physical therapy at home so they released Trevor earlier than anticipated. He will still have physical therapy with a therapist three times a week, but we need to make sure he stays moving and active at home as well and does the exercises they have assigned.

While we welcome visitors, as we “move back in” to our home, adjust and establish a routine, we respectfully ask for a few days before visitors. We thank everyone for all the prayers, love and support we received during this difficult and tragic time in our lives. We will keep you all posted.

Love,
Ricky, Joelle and Trevor
