Ever wondered what happens to the water that goes down the drain? Join Ironhouse Sanitary District (ISD) on Jan. 9 for a first-hand look at what it takes to turn millions of gallons of wastewater each day into clean recycled water that can be used for irrigation and more. The tour is free and open to the public. Classrooms and clubs for young and old are invited.
This will be the first of a series of tours in 2018 that will take members of the community on a tour of ISD’s award-winning Water Recycling Facility. The tour is expected to take about one hour and thirty minutes.
ISD opened its technologically advanced membrane-bioreactor UV disinfection facility in 2011. The wastewater cleaning process uses no chemicals but instead cleans with a complex filtration system, sludge-eating bacteria and ultra-violet light.
Wear comfortable closed toed shoes and a jacket as the facility is outside. The tour walks through a series of buildings and stations, up and down steps.
This tour will be rescheduled if it rains.
Attendees must be 10 or older and accompanied by an adult if under 18. School, home-schoolers and club groups welcome.
