Just before 6:30 pm Saturday, East Contra Costa firefighters responded to W. Cypress Road and Rose Avenue in the City of Oakley for a report of a vehicle collision with one person trapped.
Upon arrival, Engine 53 requested additional assistance due to equipment issues with their power tools and requested the closest available rescue engine which turned out was Engine 84 (Pittsburg – Railroad Ave). Engine 52 (Brentwood) became available and were then dispatched instead. A medical helicopter was also requested.
A total of three engine companies (including Contra Costa County Fire) were on scene of the crash working to free the female patient and provide man power. Crews worked for roughly 30-minutes to free a woman who sustained injuries and was transported by AMR to the medical helicopter where she was airlifted to a local hospital.
A male patient in another vehicle was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital.
According to Oakley Police, both vehicles claimed they stopped at a stop sign but given the significant damage that they were investigating who ran the stop sign.
