UPDATED: 1 Dead in Vehicle Crash on James Donlon Blvd in Antioch

At 10:26 am Thursday, Antioch Police and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a report of a major vehicle crash on James Donlon and Contra Loma in the City of Antioch.

It was reported that two vehicles were fully involved and at least one person ejected from a vehicle and one person still inside a burning vehicle.

By 10:34 am, Antioch Police Department officers arrived on scene reporting one person was still possibly in a vehicle and another person was in the roadway. They also reported one person was deceased.

As of 10:36, Contra Costa County Fire confirmed at least 1 person dead. 1 person was transported to a local hospital.

The roadway is shut down.

On Thursday July 14th, 2022, at 10:23 AM, Antioch Police responded to a report of a car fire near James Donlon Blvd and Contra Loma Blvd.  As officers arrived, it was determined that a vehicle had collided into a tree, then into another vehicle traveling in the same direction.  The collision caused one of the cars to catch fire.  One of the drivers died as a result of injuries, sustained in the crash.  The other driver and a passenger were treated for minor injuries.

The Antioch Police Department Traffic Unit responded and took over the investigation.  It was determined though witness statements that both vehicles were traveling at a high rate of speed on James Donlon Blvd., prior to the crash.  The case is still in preliminary stages and pending further investigation.  

Due to the ongoing investigation, no further information will be released at this time.

Don’t anybody say it. Don’t anybody blame the road for this. I can feel sad for the families of the people involved, but mustering up sympathy for recklessness is really difficult

Drivers! Slow down on James Donlon ! There have been so many terrible accidents on this road due to speed and red light runners . Slow Down save lives!
