Does this mean the solo occupant was a 16 year old/

Pretty complicated, isn’t it?
I mean, I’m reading the headline and it says “Antioch: 16-Year-Old Killed in Fatal Crash on James Donlon”. Then I read in the article, “…James Donlon Blvd with extensive damage and a solo occupant driver trapped inside”.
I’m thinking maybe the headline and that line down in the story are related?
I don’t know.

Yes the occupant was a 16 yr old boy who was the only person in the car and killed as well

Is it really that confusing?

The cause of the collision was SPEEDING! This happens on James Donlon A LOT! It’s almost the status quo on that road! I hope the tree survived!

SMH Aug 24, 2019 - 11:50 pm

You hope the tree survived!!! You have to to be kidding me!!! Someone just lost their child you are a very sad human being

Dianne Z Aug 25, 2019 - 12:56 pm

That CHILD should have been taught NOT to speed in that area and at age 16 should have been home by 10 PM … Maybe that CHILD should not have even been driving!

YES! I too hope the tree survived!

Witch. That was someone’s child. And children do not always do what they are taught or what is wise. You are awful and hateful.

I guess making a joke about the death of a 16 y/o is the norm. I wonder why this child was even driving? The has to be some trouble in the home and I hope that the family finds peace. Can we remember when we were 16? So sad to hear that a life was lost that young in such a preventable accident.

Yeah I remember when I was 16 I graduated high school 2 years early and was working full time so sorry there are very responsible 16 year olds I don’t know what happened but I would guess speed played a factor that and an inexperienced driver

Speeding is a choice one makes! It’s not an “accident.” When I was 16, some 20 year ago, we were not allowed to drive. We took public transportation or our parents drive us. At age 18, we were allowed to drive but only reluctantly. Our parents were very strict about instilling safe driving habits in all of us. The vehicle was considered a dangerous instrument one had to respect.

The James Donlon road is one area where a lot of people were witnessed driving irresponsibly. This was not the first fatality there and a few months there was another crash involving teenagers.

Yes speed is a personal decision, and so is being an asshole. Wouldn’t it be funny if your child wrecked their car into a tree? I pray that this doesn’t happen happen to you. However, if you do lose a loved one from a irresponsible act you can always look back on how you responded to someone else’s tragedy.

Gloria Aug 30, 2019 - 4:21 pm

Well then, Dana Roach! It won’t happen to our kid because he was properly trained and at age 16, with a provisional license, he is not allowed to drive alone but must have an adult with him. That’s the CA law pertaining to juvenile drivers.

So, you should not worry about our kid . . that’s another problem off your back.

The tree seemed to be in fairly good shape. It does have burns now since mourners left a burning candle at its base and you know the rest… Dan has a point, at 16 y/o, at least a few years back, it was a provisional license and the the driver needed a licensed adult river a certain age in the car. When did that law go away? Horrible accident, prayers for family and friends, but please learn from this.

Phillip Aug 26, 2019 - 5:49 pm

I never understood why these people leave candles, teddy bears and all sorts of debris where a death has occurred. Who brought that here? I’ve never seen it until within the last 10 years.

Yes! We know that someone irresponsible was driving and crashed into a tree, which managed to survive. I’d like to see a sign saying, “See what speed will result in!” and that’s it.
