Update: Man Dies After Striking Tree in Antioch While Possibly Racing Another Vehicle

At approximately 2:15 pm Sunday, the Antioch Police Department responded to a vehicle crash on James Donlon Blvd near Silverado in the City of Antioch.

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters and AMR arrived on scene to a report of a vehicle that had collided with a tree. The incident shut down the roadway after the vehicle struck a tree and split the vehicle nearly in half.

At least one person, the driver in their mid-20’s, was pronounced deceased on scene.

No other details have been released by Antioch Police and calls to the media line have not been returned.

UPDATE

On 4/17/22, at approximately 2:13 PM, Antioch Police Department officers were dispatched to James Donlon Bl. near Silverado Dr. on a report of a traffic collision involving a vehicle that struck a tree. Arriving officers located a Subaru with major damage crashed into a tree on the center median of the roadway.

The sole occupant of the Subaru was pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel. He was later identified as 26-year-old Steve Hernandez of Antioch. The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the Subaru was racing another vehicle at the time of the collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor in the collision.

It’s not good to celebrate the deaths of others but that doesn’t mean it necessarily needs to be lamented either.
