One of the easiest roads to drive on in town. And this? No skill at all and should’ve never have been given a drivers license.

Greg Feb 18, 2020 - 12:36 am

Maybe they didn’t have drivers licenses.

Enough of these idiots? Close this road Feb 16, 2020 - 7:54 pm

Time to shut down this road. I could go on and on but no. Close this road these idiots don’t need it. Put up the barricades now.

What else does the city expect? Our roads are all raceways, practically 0 enforcement, people driving 60+ through neighborhoods and school zones and 100+ on the freeways.

We heard the cars race by and waited to hear the crash, which didnt take more than a second or two. To say excessive speed is an understatement, we were just glad they didnt hit another car or bicyclist just going about the day. We know they can’t/won’t close that road, but put in speed humps (Brentwood has some on roads that were being used as race ways). It would be nice to have two police one this road, one near each end and at all times. If it saves lives wouldn’t that be a payoff? Oh right, this is Antioch.

Like I said before, how many more need to die on this road??? It’s been going on for years now…

People need to just slow down…period. Closing the road is a ridiculous suggestion. They drive like this everywhere. So if it’s not JD then it will be another street. SLOW DOWN.

Gee, Antioch PD now has 4 officers assigned to traffic. Most of the time, they are working Lone Tree Way — they need to head out to “Interstate James Donlon” DAILY —- not just in response to this fatal crash for a week or two.

Another heartbreaking tragedy due to irresponsible driving.

I agree that closing the road is RIDICULOUS. These Accidents need to be made MORE PUBLIC, LIKE BREAKING NEWS AND THE DESTROYED VEHICLES NEED TO BE SHOWN ON TV. YEARS AGO IN NYC YOU GOT EXTRA POINTS ON YOUR LICENSE FOR TAKING AN ADDITIONAL DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSE. I TOOK IT. IT SHOWED UNRETOUCHED PHOTOS OF ACCIDENTS, BODIES BEING EXTRACTED FROM VEHICLES, KINDA A SCARED STRAIGHT FOR DRIVERS. ONCE YOU SEE A CAR WRAPPED AROUND A TREE, YOU WILL THINK TWICE ABOUT EXCESSIVE SPEED. I AVOID DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 4 AT NIGHT, WITNESSED MANY RACERS, ALSO BELIEVE IT OR NOT ON GARRIN IN BRENTWOOD FOOLS DOING DONUTS IN THE DAY TIME. SMH. DAYM SHAME TO LOSE YOUR LIFE FOR BEING STUPID.

This was a senseless act that took the life of an 18 year old female. I don’t know what is running through these young kids’ minds when they are racing down local streets and without wearing their seat belts. They have no regard for human life and unfortunately this was the outcome. One family has to grieve with the loss of an 18 year old.

Get your shit together East County. We need more traffic enforcement officers where we are experiencing more death and injury on our local roads. People know they can get away with anything in Antioch and that is why people continue to do what they do.

Well, now. Can’t hold the city responsible for knucklehead behavior. The road is perfectly fine. It’s the knuckleheads among us who make it dangerous. Same thing happens on Hillcrest, Deer Valley and Lone Tree. We can’t close streets just because imbeciles wreck their cars and kill themselves. Not heartbroken. Just in awe over the unending supply of stupidity in East County

Too much horse power for unexperienced drivers Feb 18, 2020 - 1:09 pm

So sad for the 18yr old girl’s family. Unfortunately she probably wasn’t wearing a seat belt. These young drivers think that it isn’t going to happen to them because they know how to drive. WRONG! They get these cars that are fast and think they can race anywhere. East 18th St going east after the high school get out becomes a quarter mile race track with cars hitting over 60mph until they get to Cavallo Rd. I’ve got this on radar. Then it’s again after 6pm cards are again speeding even faster in both directions until the bars close at 2am. I’m just waiting until someone hits the cement wall that separates E.18th and the frontage street because it’s bound to happen. Especially the ones driving those loud cameros and mustangs. We need traffic enforcement at night too.

George Mathews Feb 19, 2020 - 5:54 am

Too bad for her. But what if she had hit a pedestrian. Or a bicyclist. Or some poor schmo in another vehicle. I know it’s gonna happen, but I sure hope the roadside memorial doesn’t pop up anytime soon
