Oakley: Thousands Attend 2nd Annual Heart of Oakley Festival

by ECT

The City of Oakley held a successful Heart of Oakley Festival Saturday which included a ribbon cutting of its newly designed Civic Park. The event featured over50 vendors from beer and wine to arts and crafts, non-profits and a kids area. Throughout the day, the newly formed stage was put to good use with entertainment while thousands visited vendors booths.

Congressman Jerry McNerney said the amphitheater is just another example of the city officials pulling together to get work done.

“Every time I come to the City of Oakley i am impressed with something new. This is terrific,” said McNerney. “You guys deserve a lot of credit, the elected officials needed the city to support the plan and visions the funds for the veterans memorial are being supplied through donations; this is a real community! This is a place where kids can come and play. It’s right across the street from a nice retail outlet and stores nearby. Congratulations Oakley, I am really proud to represent you.”

Jennifer Quallick, representing Supervisor Mary Piepho’s Office said Oakley is growing and is a great place to be.

“In honor of the ribbon cutting and inauguration of the cities downtown civic center stage and amphitheater, Supervisor Mary Piepho hereby congratulates the City of Oakley on its celebration of a community project that will be the site of many community gatherings for years to come,” said Quallick.

The Veterans of Oakley  held their coming out party by hosting a booth while the Delta Breeze Broadcasting (a newly formed radio station) allowed folks to test being on the radio.

The newly renovated Civic Center Amphitheater Project upgrade was a $405,000 funds provided by the East Bay Regional Park District. The construction included

  • Amphitheater style seating
  • Stage & stage cover
  • Restroom/snack shack building
  • Landscaping
  • Irrigation
  • Lighting

Sure would be nice to see a POSITIVE event in Antioch, but alas, we lack the City Leadership that Oakley has had for several years.

Dale, every time we tried we were told no due to liability so we quit trying to get it together.
They have even run the car shows out of town. We need to clean out the second floor of city hall.
