The Oakley Chamber of Commerce hosted its monthly Breakfast with the Mayor this morning at Les Schwab Tires from 7:00 to 8:00 am.  Oakley Mayor Kevin Romick was on hand to answer a variety of questions while the morning meeting allowed folks to network with one another.

Questions ranged from the following:

  • Fountain: The city was told originally by the architect it would be a low cost project which turned out to be the opposite and now they are reconsidering the options.
  • Popey’s Coming to Oakley: The Mayor went over the many options discussed over the years. There is currently one located in Antioch. An Oakley location is not set in stone.
  • Power Plant: Discussed how the meeting has been postponed until April 18.
  • Main Street Road Construction: Stated the road along city hall has been delayed due to concerns of damaging the Oak Trees. Stated they made be moving away from diagonal parking to parallel parking for that side of the road.
  • O’Hara sidewalk Construction: Stated they found a pipe and in the process of figuring out what to do with it and who’s it is as it was not on the map in the planning phase. Stated it had delayed the project.
  • eBART: It has been delayed until 2017
  • 239 expansion: it’s being discussed of expanding 239 from Brentwood to Tracy which would make an expressway through Mountain House to the Freeway. Stated they are getting push back from environmental groups.
  • Ferry to Oakley: Stated there was some interest from Chris Lauritzen with Antioch getting a ferry that he would like to get one to Oakley as well. Stated it’s a project that would come down the road if ever.

It would be nice if the City of Oakley would update the rest of the city on what Mayor Romick is stating at this meeting. Now we are delayed on two city projects because of a pipe and an Oak tree? Again I ask, what is city staff even doing down there? Don’t even get me started on the fountain!

Could not agree more Watchdog. Antioch is the same way.

Jim, Antioch is worse. The process of building the new boat ramp is a disaster and the state tells residents we will get no more money. “Staff” says that is not true and away we go………. that is only one of many problems.
