Freedom Garden to Host “Earth Day” Event Thanking Community

On April 21, John Sierra and his garden crew at Freedom High School will be thanking the community who helped vote and publicize the Samsung “Solve for Tomorrow” National video competition by throwing a celebration.

The FRESHH (environmental) Club is putting together a community celebration on Sunday, April 21st (Earth Day weekend) from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.  Families and kids of all ages are invited to get an early look at the garden and participate in activities like painting tiles, planting seeds, exploring solar power and making windmills.

Freedom submitted its video which focused on the 6,000 square foot garden promoting water conservation and habitat restoration using native California plants.  Although Freedom did not place in the top five which would have awarded them $110,000, they did finish in the top 15 and were awarded $40,000 in Samsung technology.

Freedom High received 4,908 votes as compared with the 72,441 that of a Los Angeles high school collected in this “Community Choice” award category.
