SF Chronicle Picks McNerney for Congress

by ECT

Here is a nice editorial from the San Francisco Chronicle yesterday which points out exactly what I saw in the debate and how Ricky Gill has acted throughout the campaign which is He gets vague in a hurry when the subject turns to critical issues such as climate change, abortion rights, same-sex marriage and immigration reform.

Here is the editorial:

Republican Ricky Gill, a 25-year-old recent law school graduate, has drawn national attention with his ability to put together a seven-figure campaign against Rep. Jerry McNerney in a newly aligned congressional district that includes Stockton, Lodi and parts of Contra Costa County.

What Gill has not been able to do is make a case that McNerney – a plainspoken, centrist, consensus-seeking Democrat with a focus on constituent services – should be replaced after six years in Congress.

Even less persuasive is Gill’s argument that he is ready for Capitol Hill. His professional resume is as thin as some of his positions. He gets vague in a hurry when the subject turns to critical issues such as climate change, abortion rights, same-sex marriage and immigration reform.

Gill has tried to make an issue of McNerney’s recent move from Pleasanton (in his old district) to Stockton. But McNerney has shown a commitment to immerse himself in the district and its issues. He gets our endorsement for the Ninth Congressional District.
