Question: Would You Support Local Law Enforcement Using These Signs?

by ECT

We would like to ask the EastCountyToday audience if they would support local law enforcement in Contra Costa County if they would support law enforcement using similar signs when it comes to drug dealers and arrests.

According to a Facebook post by the Flagler County Sheriffs Department (Florida), the image was posted with the arrest of Jamie Bullock, 36, the owner of the property, who was under suspicion of selling cocaine.

The post also stated that since December of 2018, law enforcement have received several tips regarding drug dealing from the home and have since returned to the residence multiple times.

During the search, Bullock was found to be in possession of additional narcotics and was charged with Possession of Cannabis over 20 grams, Possession of a Schedule III Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Yes. The signs can’t stay up indefinitely, obviously, but this sends a strong signal to the rest of the community that action is being taken. The neighborhood can see results and feel that there is some point in trying to rid themselves of this element.

I say bring them on. I am tired of lowlife drug dealers in the community. It may reduce home values in the short term, but if enough signs go up it will send a strong message to either stop or go to another community and deal. In the long run, sending drug dealers else where will raise home values. This also is a clever way to send a message to the DA who is light on crime that she is not doing enough.

I support our law enforcement but this is stupid. Florida people doing stupid Florida things.

Kev May 28, 2019 - 10:08 am

Lol perpetuate the negativity good idea

SW May 28, 2019 - 6:41 pm

I’m thinking that they kind of brought the negativity upon themselves, and their neighborhood, when they decided to start selling narcotics out of their house?

Pole Climber May 28, 2019 - 10:55 am

I think the idea is awesome. But more than one sign needs to be posted…

owen May 28, 2019 - 11:07 am

Yes bring them on! But not near to my house.

The Dude May 28, 2019 - 11:20 am

To what end? I’m guessing that the offenders have been incarcerated, and therefore are no longer living there. Hypothetical: What if it was some leach kid dealing while Mom/Pop are unaware or just unable to deal with the kid; they call police, who arrest and convict kid, who then goes away… do we put the sign up to further the pain on the parents who called the police and turned in their kid?

Why not instead just publically shame the person who is a drug dealer by marking them for life as a convicted drug dealer, much like we do for child predators.

Besides… signs cost money, and that money could be used in better ways than a sign.

Geraldine May 28, 2019 - 1:42 pm

These people are beyond “shame.” If people don’t monitor what their kid is doing, then the kid AND the parents should pay the price! PUT UP THE SIGN! I’m all for it!

Nick May 28, 2019 - 12:02 pm

I support law enforcement, and I don’t live in East County – but this is stupid. Public shaming (even if it’s against the law) is childish, and if that’s your mindset, you need to grow up. I’d be tired of low life drug dealers (in any community) but I’d push myself to make more money, and move to a nicer area. Nice things aren’t cheap, and cheap things aren’t nice. The only thing that sends a strong message is PROSECUTION. If you really think signs will help, you’re naïve. You might be embarrassed when friends and family visit. I would be.

Go for it. Might open some eyes

Rocketman May 28, 2019 - 1:09 pm

YES! I totally support such signs being posted everywhere thee drug houses are taken out! I support this 100% and I don’t care if it’s posted near MY house! Bring it on, officers!

Anne May 28, 2019 - 1:18 pm

No way. It’s unnecessary.

SW May 28, 2019 - 6:46 pm

Why not? Everyone else on the street, with their families, has been affected by the decision of this person to start dealing drugs out of their house. This is kind of a wake-up call for a lot of others that they shouldn’t be shittin’ in their own bed (neighborhood).

Vito May 28, 2019 - 1:33 pm

YES! YES! And YES again! I’m all for such signage being applied to drug houses! Oh? Did I say YES?

Melanie May 28, 2019 - 1:59 pm

Why would anyone want to advertise that a drug dealer lived in their neighborhood? Let the criminal justice system deal with the offenders. Or we going to have signs and flags for everything these days?

Sorcerer May 28, 2019 - 6:06 pm

Why advertise that a drug house was operating in your neighborhood? Because it would get people to pay attention as to who is doing what in their area and take immediate action that it be stopped. Also, it will send a message to the next person who so much as thinks he could rent or buy a house and start an illegal business. It also tells the neighbors that the perpetrators are gone!

I am all for these types of signs be prominently displayed even in my own neighborhood, if needed.

Melanie May 28, 2019 - 7:00 pm

If you really think an asinine sign will stop someone from selling drugs, then I have a bridge to sell you. I lived by a drug dealer while away at college in Los Angeles. It was a middle class neighborhood, but it was life in the big city. A neighbor got involved with LAPD trying to run the drug dealers out of the neighborhood, and the drug dealer murdered their 9 year old son. Was taking “immediate action” worth it? Are you a parent? I would NEVER mess with a drug dealer. That’s what cops are for. Let them do their job, and I’ll live my life – thank you.

We can agree to disagree.

This is stupid beyond belief — but then again, there is a lot of “stupid” law enforcement being generating in the Balmy State of Florida and the rest of the south (come on, they pay their cops like $15 an hour and have a retirement system based on 1/2%@90, which requires cops to work second jobs just to make ends meet) — and their stupid crap (that Sheriffs and Police Chiefs there do) makes it difficult for cops in other parts of the country. This is what press releases and news media reporting is for. If the law enforcement agency feels the incident needs broadcasting, then so be it, but to put a sign on a front yard is stupid.

Julio May 28, 2019 - 5:24 pm

Spoken like a true excop.

SW May 28, 2019 - 6:47 pm

I agree, or a disgruntled one from around here

VINCE AUGUSTA May 28, 2019 - 9:38 pm

No … a retired one ! hahaha

Simonpure May 28, 2019 - 2:02 pm

Simply take down the sign or file a littering charge

Roger May 28, 2019 - 2:09 pm

I say a resounding YES! YES! This is long overdue! I’m all for handling drug problems here like they do in Florida! WE NEED SUCH SIGNS! Our law enforcement should adopt this system. No neighborhood is spared when it comes to people turning their house into a drug house! In our neighborhood, some guys rented out a house, no furniture was moved in but they used it for illegal drug sales. The landlord never even knew until the place caught fire! The flames shot up 50 feet and the adjoining properties were severely damaged.

Blind pig May 28, 2019 - 10:26 pm

Way too far and stupid. Why not enforce the laws that allow seizures of drug dealer owned property? I say if you are going to place signs on drug houses…then let’s do all crimes… let’s not single out 1. Let’s do DUI’s, white collar crimes etc.. Hey we could sell maps and have your busses, why not make a buck on the whole thing while we’re at it.

Jerry May 28, 2019 - 11:46 pm

I totally support this! Our Antioch PD should get right to it! This will help neighbors become alert of what is going on in their neighborhood and why they didn’t report DRUG HOUSE activities sooner.

Flower May 29, 2019 - 3:16 pm

Although I like the idea, this will lower property prices of the neighborhood. And besides, this would never fly in Cali because it would be against criminals.

Nick May 29, 2019 - 3:33 pm

It would definitely lower property values. Anyone who doesn’t realize this isn’t thinking very clearly. This sign has “lower class” written all over it. Welcome to the hood, even if it is a nice neighborhood.

Rich Jun 2, 2019 - 5:53 pm

Note: the sign was posted upon the arrest of the resident who was “suspected” of selling cocaine. No conviction necessary. How utterly stupid. Prepare the lawsuit.
