On 05/04/2022 at 1:45 PM, Contra Costa CHP was advised of a white male adult standing in the center divide of eastbound SR-24 to northbound I-680.

Officers responded to the scene and attempted to make contact. As the officers approached him, he appeared to be suffering from a mental health crisis. The officers closed the freeway and a crisis negotiating team was called to the scene.

At 5:30 PM the pedestrian was taken into custody peacefully and will receive the medical assistance he needs.

We would like to thank Contra Costa Sheriffs Office, Walnut Creek PD, Contra Costa Fire Department and Cal-Trans for their assistance with this incident.

Note – the roadway has since been reopened.
