On Wednesday, Governor Gavin Newsom stated that schools in California would not reopen this school year and the focus will become on distance learning.
The announcement comes after Newsom said there were 8,155 positive cases of coronavirus in California with 774 of those patients occupying ICU beds.
During the press conference, State Superintendent Tony Thurmond stated although school campus were closed, education is continued through distance learning through the end of the school year.
