Faulty Wind Mill Causes 25-Acre Grass Fire Sunday Morning

Vasco Wind Mill Fire

At 2:01 am Sunday morning, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a grass fire at Gate 26 off of Vasco Road which burned 25 acres of grass in the Wind Mill Park.

The early morning incident required 45-firefighters with assistance from CALFIRE and Alameda County Fire.

Upon arrival, Engine 52 and Battalion 5 found a wind driven grass fire and they mobilized to get it contained quickly before a major fire could occur. Engines 52, 54 and 59 were all committed to the fire.

According to the Battalion Chief, the fire was caused by a faulty wind mill. No one was injured in the fire.
