Caldecott Tunnel Bore Closure Extended Until 4:30 am Friday

CALTRANS announced Thursday that it has extended the full closure of the Caldecott Tunnel, Bores #1 & #2 eastbound State Route 24 (SR-24) between Alameda County and Contra Costa County until Friday June 7.

The bores will be closed Thursday between 9:30 pm to 4:30 am Friday. This closure will allow workers to complete a required Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) annual inspection for each bore. This requires a night closure due to heavy daytime traffic volumes through the tunnel.

Closure Information:

Bore #1:

  • Monday, June 3: Closed from 9:30 pm until 4:30 am, Tuesday, June 4
  • Extended – Thursday June 6 from 9:30 pm until 4:30 am, Friday, June 7

Bore #2:

  • Tuesday, June 4: Closed from 9:30 pm until 4:30 am, Wednesday, June 5
  • Wednesday, June 5: Closed from 9:30 pm until 4:30 am, Thursday, June 6

Traffic delays and construction noise may be associated with this closure.

Motorist are advised to expect delays and allow extra time for their commute. Please drive with caution through the construction zone, leave a safe traveling distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you, and Slow for the Cone Zone.
