Alameda County Sheriff’s Deputies Ambushed in San Lorenzo

On June 26, 2021, about 1:21am, three Alameda County Sheriff’s Deputies (ACSO) were detailed to an apartment on the 16600 block of Ashland Avenue in San Lorenzo, CA for a report of domestic violence, Deputies arrived on scene and attempted to contact the involved persons inside the apartment.

The deputies made brief contact with a 21 year old man named, Raqee Ansarullah, at the door of the apartment and he immediately slammed the door on them. Within moments, Ansarullah opened the door and instantly fired a Glock semi automatic handgun at the deputies,

In defense of their lives, Deputies returned fire at Ansarullah. The deputies tactfully retreated from the door to distance themselves from the ambush. About this time, more gunshots were heard and Ansarullah jumped from a balcony and hid in some nearby bushes.

A short time later, Ansarullah emerged from the bushes with his hands up and surrendered to deputies.

None of the deputies or the suspect were struck by gunfire. No other persons in the complex were injured. The incident was captured on the deputies body worn cameras.

The suspects handgun was recovered at the scene after it fell out of his pocket during his escape.

Ansarullah was arrested for attempted murder on 3 peace officers. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

Detectives and crime lab personnel are on scene processing the evidence. The Alameda County District Attorney was notified as is protocol in these circumstances.

The deputies will be placed on administrative leave as is customary during these critical incidents.
