Walnut Creek Police Announces Foot Patrols in Downtown Area

by ECT

Walnut Creek Police Department announced they will have extra staffing on the street this weekend, with expanded foot patrols providing an additional presence in the downtown area. The extra officers will be on duty during the busiest times for Walnut Creek dining and nightlife on Friday and Saturday.

According to Police, several recent events have prompted extra attention in our downtown corridor. Last weekend, a man fired several gunshots after he and a companion tried to leave Modern China restaurant without paying for their dinner. No one was hurt, and investigators are continuing to review the information that can help identify the suspect. Additionally, an altercation outside Dan’s Irish Sports Bar between a private security guard and a patron resulted in serious injuries to the patron and the security guard’s arrest. Details of those incidents are outlined below.

While these are isolated incidents, we want to make sure Walnut Creek residents and visitors feel comfortable while enjoying our many restaurants and shops. As our community begins to feel more comfortable returning to favorite businesses, you should know that we’re out there with you.

(Case #21-22397) September 5, 12:40 a.m., incident outside of Dan’s Irish Sports Bar: Security guards at Dan’s confronted a patron who attempted to force his way into the bar. One guard, Dante Sims, 42 (Antioch), was arrested for assault after inflicting serious injuries on the patron, who then fell and struck his head on the ground. The case will be sent to the District Attorney’s Office for review. The patron is recovering from his injuries at a local hospital.

(Case #21-22476) September 5, 8:40 p.m., incident outside of Modern China: A couple left Modern China restaurant after dining without paying the bill. The business’ owner followed the couple across the street, confronted them, and the man paid the owner. The couple got into a black Kia sedan driven by the woman. The man sitting in the passenger seat brandished a handgun and fired three shots as the car was driving away. No one was hit, and the investigation into the situation continues. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Detective Hall at 925-943-5899 x2405.

Does this mean that the owner and servers at Modern China couldn’t sit down with a police sketch artist and produce an image of the diners who refused to pay for their meals and then started shooting up in the air? Where did those bullets land? There are security cameras all over that area. The Kia can probably be spotted with it’s plate number as well as the couple leaving the restaurant.

As to the security guards at Dan’s, if you try to force your way into a restaurant . and are stopped. Don’t expect the guards to do a minuet with you. Why is this guard being harassed? His job is to stop the guy and you do whatever it takes . . and he did.
