At roughly 12:51 pm Sunday, emergency crews from multiple agencies responded to a four vehicle accident on Vasco Road where they treated 13 patients.

East Contra Costa Fire Protection District crews arrived on scene to find Alameda County and Livermore/Pleasanton Fire rending aid to victims of a mult-vehicle accident. There were four vehicles involved within the primary accident.

The incident closed Vasco Road in both directions as the scene was secured.

The incident included 2 patients who had major injuries and were ground transported to Eden Hospital, 5 patients were ground transported to Valley Care while 6 patients were AMA (Against Medical Advice)

The probable cause of the crash was that a small pickup truck crossed over the center line causing a chain reaction vehicle accident. The exact cause is under investigation by the CHP.

Responding agencies included East Contra Costa Fire Protection District, Alameda County Fire, Livermore/Pleasanton Fire, American Medical Response, California Highway Patrol, and Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office.

Sad day for the injured. Hope they get well. ECCFPD was beat to the scene by Livermore Fire is troubling. They are several more miles away. That’s not a good feeling for Vasco drivers.

Vasco Road is one of the worst roads for injuries and fatalies in the Bay Area. How many lives will it claim before barriers are installed all the way to prevent head on collisions?

I strongly agree! As a new resident in East County, I am honestly concerned with having to travel on Vasco Rd. Barriers need to be installed ASAP!! If they can do it in the Santa Cruz mountains, they can easily do it here. This issue really needs to be addressed much more seriously!

Vasco road Is a pretty long roadway, spanning two counties maybe it was closer to Alameda County? Maybe the first due fire deparemt was on a call?Maybe you need more info before you get worried about who arrived first. We should feel fortunate that 3 fire departments responded with two of them having paramedics on the fire rigs! Let’s not forget East County is under protected and under staffed. That is my concern.

Just another day in the jungle Aug 5, 2014 - 12:25 am

It’s not the road, it’s people. You can give humans the safest roadway and they will still turn it into a blood bath. Everyone is in a hurry. Hurry up for what? To crash, give yourself a heart attack, kill or cripple someone’s loved one? What is so important that people are in such a rush for? Parents, so what if your kid misses practice, send them outside to play and they wouldn’t need practice. Young ppl respect the law and slow down! Drunks & druggies do the right thing and stay off the road! Give the elders respect they earned to drive slow! Back off!! You don’t get there any faster. Most of the time I personally end up at a light at the same time as the idiot that passes me. Common sense-GONE! POOF!! Last seen in the year 2000. Does anyone even know how many car lengths to put in between cars anymore? If you don’t look it up and use your blinker for peets sake!! Texting, really this is something you can drive and do? I guess if I had two more hands and another head growing out of my shoulders I could pull it off. The most careless irresponsible act I see on a daily bases.

For why Aug 5, 2014 - 2:45 pm

Just another day. You are absolutely 100% correct!!! One lower class of drivers that could be added are red light runners. Completey no respect for others let alone themselves. No doubt this accident was caused by a driver of this type. Hope all get well soon
