Walnut Creek Police Deem Suspicious Pipe Device “Empty” in Brentwood

At 12:26 pm, the Brentwood Police Department received a report of a suspicious package in the 5400 block of Lone Tree Way in the shopping center in the City of Brentwood.

The incident prompted fire and police to block off a 850 ft perimeter in the area of Trader Joe’s and Sportsman Warehouse.

No other information was readily available, however, the community is encouraged to avoid the area. The Walnut Creek Police Bomb Squad was dispatched to the incident. Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District, AMR and Antioch Police were all on scene.

1:03 pm UPDATE
Michael’s, Sportsman Warehouse, Famous Footwear and Petco were all evacuated. They will be working on secondary evacuations shortly due to multiple other possible threats.

2:15 pm UPDATE

The Walnut Creek Bomb Squad had arrived on scene and observed the 12-inch long pipe with caps on each end between two trees. Upon further investigation, they rendered the devise safe and was empty. They detonated the pipe as a precaution.

The parking lot was reopened by 2:45 pm.
