by ECT

The California Police Chiefs Association awarded its most prestigious award, the Joe Molloy Award, to Walnut Creek Police Chief Tom Chaplin on March 21st at the Installation Banquet during their 41st Annual Training Symposium in Long Beach.

CPCA President Edward Medrano, Chief of the Gardena Police Department, presented Chief Chaplin with the award for his dedication and service to law enforcement and to the California Police Chiefs Association. This award embodies the characteristics represented by the late Chief Joe Molloy of Anaheim; professionalism, leadership, energy, and commitment to the mission of the Association.

Chief Medrano said the selection of Chief Tom Chaplin to receive this award was an easy one to make. “Chief Chaplin has tirelessly served the association in several capacities,” explained Chief Medrano. “His leadership of our Training Committee the past two years has resulted in increased professional development opportunities for our members and enhanced workshop offerings at our Training Symposium. Chief Chaplin is also a valued member of our Board of Directors and represents our association and the interests of California’s police chiefs as a member of the Governor’s Commission on Peace Officer Standards & Training. Tom Chaplin’s passion for training and his record of commitment and contribution on a statewide level and to the association is greatly appreciated. He is highly respected within the law enforcement community. I was honored to present Chief Chaplin with the award for the work he has done for Cal Chiefs, for law enforcement, and for public safety.”

The California Police Chiefs Association represents the state’s municipal police chiefs whose agencies protect over 26 million Californians.
