Walnut Creek: Firefighters Battle 2-Alarm Structure Fire in Rossmoor, $140k in Damages

At 2:46 pm, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a report of structure fire in the 2600 block of Saklan Indian Drive in the City of Walnut Creek.

With a report of both an active fire and a possible rescue, the incident was upgraded to a second-alarm response. Crews arrived on scene to both smoke and flames with one occupant able to escape.

By 3:07 pm Active fire in the attic with no victims located.

By 3:09 pm, the second alarm fire was cancelled.

By 3:15 pm, the fire was reportedly knocked down with 15 sheets of plywood requested for board up.

Update:
According to Contra Costa County Fire, there was extensive damage limited to one unit, estimated at $140k. Cause of fire, improperly extinguished cigarette on back porch. 1-2 residents displaced.

I would NOT want my grandmother moving into any of the ROSSMOOR units for fear of people nodding off with their lit cigarettes or being exposed to kitchen fires. Those units can become firetraps in minutes!
