UPDATE per CHP

Last night (12/7/19) at about 6:36pm, CHP Contra Costa responded to a call of an unresponsive female along the roadway side at westbound Gateway Road, west of Piper Road. Upon CHP & emergency personnel arrival, the unresponsive adult female (42yrs old from Discovery Bay) was pronounced deceased.

An investigation to determine the cause of her death began immediately as there were no witnesses or vehicles in the area. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Coroners Office will be handling the release of identity of the deceased female.

As the investigation continued and a few hours later into the evening, a call was received by CHP dispatch from an adult male from Bethel Island that was reporting he believed he may have hit the female with his vehicle. CHP responded to his residence in Bethel Island and a full investigation was conducted.

The 56yr old male related to investigators that he thought he hit the female with his gray 1994 Honda accord. The Honda was located in his driveway with significant damage consistent to that of a collision. The male was cooperative and disclosed all information regarding the incident.

Alcohol or drug impairment of the male driver are not a factor in this collision. The identity and physical impairment or not of the deceased female pedestrian have yet to be determined as this entire incident is still under investigation (including fault, responsibility of the driver, and all particulars of this case and possible charges to be filed have yet to be determined).

If anyone witnessed this collision or the female pedestrian or the events leading up to the collision, please contact CHP in Martinez at 925-646-4980.
