Update: Concord Police Say Man Shot in Sunvalley Mall Shooting Dies

On Thursday, the Concord Police Department reported the victim in the Sunvalley Mall shooting in the City of concord  on December 31 has died.

The shooting occurred during a robbery attempt where he was treated and transported to a local hospital for care. Police say the male died Wednesday.  Police said a suspect has been arrested, but was not identified pending investigation.

On Dec. 31, 2021, police responded at 3:44 pm when two gunmen opened fire on the JC Penney side of the mall. The suspect vehicle was reported out of the City of Antioch, however, police have not issued any further information on the suspects.

Shooting Investigation at Sunvalley Mall

Please be aware that CPD is currently investigating a shooting at Sunvalley Mall. The mall is on lockdown. Currently, there does not appear to be any threat to the public. Please avoid the area. ~596

CONCORD PD (10:21 pm Update)

PRESS RELEASE: On December 31st at 3:44 p.m. the Concord Police Department was sent to the Sun Valley Mall, Lower level for a reported shooting.
Officers located one person who had been shot and he was transported to a local hospital where he is in critical, but stable condition. Initial investigation found this to be a robbery of an individual inside the mall. During the robbery a person trying to assist the robbery victim was shot by the suspects who fled the mall.
This is an ongoing investigation which is being investigated by the Concord Police Department, Major Crimes Unit. As this is an ongoing investigation no other information is being released at this time.
