2014 Youth Summit

On Saturday May 3, Supervisor Federal Glover will be hosting his 2014 Contra Costa County Youth Summit at Los Medanos College from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The free event is for youths in 6th grade through 12th grade where special workshops that offer college and job preparation classes, life skills training developing healthy habits and physical fitness will be provided.

This year’s theme is “How to Survive Being a Teenager” and the keynote speaker is Shaun Derik. The daylong event will address issues that teenagers deal with on a daily basis.

“The teen years can be a fun time, but for some, it can be a dark time.  Today’s youth are barraged with more information and choices than any other generation. Because of the sheer volume, they skim off the top of the offerings from the media and peers without getting a complete picture. They are being asked to make choices that can affect the rest of their lives without knowing the long-term consequences – all the while enduring bullying, abuse, harassment, and pressure from their peers, their teachers,” said Supervisor Glover
If students stay the entire day, they will qualify for a free bus pass for use all summer and other prizes.

TRANSPORTATION: Rides to and from the Youth Summit available for Martinez/Pacheco residents available. Contact Paul Adler at (925) 335-8200 for more details.
