Stockton Fire Chief Arrested, Taken into Custody by Turlock Police

The Stockton Police Department announces Thursday the arrest of Stockton Fire Chief Erik Newman as part of an outside assist by the Turlock Police Department.

According to police, Turlock Police reached out to Stockton regarding a criminal investigation involving Newman. Newman was ultimately arrested at City Hall and turned over to Turlock Police officers.

The details around the arrest have not yet been released.

The Stockton City Manager’s Office placed Erik Newman on administrative leave.

Turlock PD reporting this was related to Felony Spousal Abuse

 

After hearing of the arrest, the Stockton Firefighters Local 456 issued the following statement on social media:

As we found out this afternoon, Stockton Fire Chief Erik Newman was arrested today by SPD and turned over to Turlock PD. No information about charges have been released as of yet. This has come as a surprise to our membership.

Chief Newman has served as the Stockton Fire Chief for the last four years; and was slated to retire by the end of the month. He has been the fourth Fire Chief (including interims) for the SFD in the last 8 years. Previous to Stockton, Chief Newman worked for Clark County in Nevada and for Richmond California.

No matter what outcome occurs, Your Stockton Firefighters will continue to serve the community with the utmost professionalism.
