A large grass fire in Solano County has burned 1,000 acres and Contra Costa County is feeling the effects as wind is blowing smoke into Antioch, Bay Point and Pittsburg and parts of West County.

The eight-alarm grass fire started south of Highway 12 just after noon in the Suisun City area. The fire was 50 percent contained as of 3:30 p.m. About 5-to-10 structures are being threatened while parts Grizzly Island Road are closed.

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District has sent crews to assist along with East Contra Costa Fire Protection District who sent Water Tender 93 on an immediate strike team. Station 94 is now covering for Station 93 in Oakley.

It’s important to remember that fire crews are working in dangerous conditions due to high winds and hot, dry conditions thanks to a Red Flag Warning.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day just over the hill in Livermore,  firefighters have contained a 150 acre fire off Highland Rd at around 1:00 pm.

Chief Henderson has also invoked an Emergency recall to restaff Station 93 with overtime personnel. One of his many efforts to help the greater region while still protecting the District and its residents.
