Sacramento, CA – Assemblymember Jim Frazier (D-Oakley) invites the community to join him at the 25th Anniversary Dedication of the California Vietnam Veterans Memorial from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 23rd in Sacramento.
The ceremony will take place at the California Vietnam Veterans Memorial in the State Capitol Park, and will honor the service and sacrifices of our fallen Vietnam veterans, as well as pay respect to those still living. Assemblymember Frazier will also announce the addition of a California Medal of Honor recipient, Ralph H. Johnson, to the memorial wall.
The California Department of Veterans Affairs, the California Departments of the American Legion, AMVETS, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the California Council of the Vietnam Veterans of America, and Assemblymember Frazier encourage the community, veterans, and their loved ones to attend the ceremony and show support for those who have lived and died defending our nation.
“I am always thankful for the opportunity to recognize and honor our nation’s heroes,” said Assemblymember Frazier. “We owe our veterans a debt of gratitude, and this ceremony is a chance for all of us to pay tribute to those who have sacrificed everything to protect our country and its citizens. I look forward to recognizing California’s Vietnam veterans now, and also in the future with the implementation of my bill, AB 287.”
Earlier this year Governor Brown signed into law AB 287, which allows Vietnam veterans who were not included on the original California Vietnam Veterans Memorial, but who have died as a direct result of injuries or illness suffered during the conflict, to be added to the memorial. AB 287 also allows the addition of veteran names that were inadvertently left off the list, and allows veterans service organizations and individuals to submit names for consideration of inclusion on the memorial, including those who have died as a result of exposure to the herbicide Agent Orange.
