On June 5, 2017, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Property Crimes detectives arrested Lonnie Scott Schaefer, 28, of Sacramento for a burglary to a Sacramento Metro Fire station in the 8600 block of Greenback Lane in Sacramento.
A little before 2:30 a.m. on June 5, 2017, Sheriff’s deputies were called to Sacramento Fire Station #29 in regards to a burglary. Deputies were in the area and observed a vehicle leaving the scene. Deputies conducted a vehicle stop on the suspect vehicle, and the suspect fled the vehicle on foot. A perimeter was set up in the area, but the suspect was not located during the search. Detectives were able to identify Shaefer as the suspect that fled from officers.
Shaefer was located at approximately 10:00 a.m. at a third party residence located in the 7100 block of Witchinghour Court in Citrus Heights. Shaefer was taken into custody without incident with the assistance of the Citrus Heights Police Department’s SWAT team.
Since April 1, 2017, there have been no less than 13 burglaries, attempted burglaries, and vandalisms of fire stations in the North Sacramento County area. Most of the burglaries were to Sacramento Metro Fire Stations, and one burglary was to a Sacramento City Fire Station. Detectives are still trying to determine whether Shaefer had involvement in any other burglaries of fire stations or if there were others involved.
The majority of the property which was taken during the robberies were power tools that were stolen from the station, sheds, or rigs.
Lonnie Shaefer was arrested for burglary, vandalism, and resisting arrest. He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail, and is currently ineligible for bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Sacramento Superior Court on June 7, 2017.
Sheriff’s Property Crimes detectives are working with the Sacramento Police Department, Citrus Heights Police Department, and Sacramento Metro Fire Department Arson Investigators to investigate the fire station burglary series.
