Washington, DC – Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-09) announced the start of his annual “Holiday Cards for Our Troops” program.

Every year the Congressman’s district offices collect thousands of cards from the community with personal messages of gratitude for our men and women in uniform. Constituents are once again invited to submit cards to either of the Congressman’s district offices, and they will be delivered to troops at home and overseas during the upcoming holiday season.

“Many dedicated men and women in the armed services spend the holidays far away from their loved ones and the place they call home,” said Congressman McNerney. “Countless service members have told me that the messages of encouragement and support that they receive through this program help to boost morale when they cannot be home with their own families and friends during the holiday season. This program gives people in our community the opportunity to help brighten their day and thank our troops for their service.”

Holiday cards will be sent to troops stationed overseas in packages organized by the Contra Costa Blue Star Moms, East Bay Blue Star Moms, Operation Creekside the Delta Patriots Blue Star Moms.

To participate in the program, make or purchase a holiday card and write a message of thanks to a service member. Cards must be delivered to Congressman McNerney’s offices in Stockton or Antioch by Friday, November 22, 2019.  Cards should remain unaddressed and inside unsealed envelopes.

Holiday Card Guidelines:

  • Make sure to sign your card.
  • Use salutations such as “Dear Service Member.” Cards addressed to specific individuals cannot be delivered through this program.
  • Do not include inserts such as photographs or candy.
  • Please do not include confetti or glitter on the cards or envelopes.

I’m actually surprised people still join the military in 2019. There’s a reason why Hollywood still makes repetitive movies about WWII because it was the last “honest” war. Fly halfway around the world to be away from friends and family to be with a bunch of dudes, get abused, and fight the rich mans war/special interests because you think you’re fighting for your country’s freedom? For a lousy GI bill and PTSD? No thanks. I don’t feel sorry for people making dumb decisions. Maybe this lawmaker should be asking to write letters for murderers in prison, since they also murder strangers in cold blood like our “men and women in uniform”. Tired of this whole circle jerk charade.
