WASHINGTON – Rep. Jim Banks (IN-03) introduced the “Support Peaceful Protest Act” on Friday that would require arrested rioters who were caught committing crimes like acts of violence, looting or vandalism to pay for the cost of federal policing of the riot and be ineligible for federal unemployment assistance.
“Antifa thugs are descending on suffering communities, disrupting peaceful protests and leaving violence, looting and vandalism in their wake. They turned Milwaukee, Seattle and Portland into warzones, and now they’re moving the chaos to Kenosha, Wisconsin. Who knows which community is next?” said Rep. Banks. “Due to enhanced federal benefits, taxpayers are giving wages to jobless rioters that are destroying our communities. We need to cut them off from their funding and make them feel the full financial consequences of their actions.”

This is a good start. However, I fear this is too late as the meaning of “Peaceful Protest” has been changed to include rioters, looters, and violent actors. We will wait decades for the Supreme Court to define “Peaceful Protest” but by then courts will most likely be filled with prior justices that participated as a peaceful protester.
Does this also include stripping federal benefits from all of the Right-wing extremist militia White supremacist gangs also causing destruction on property and violence against others during these protests? It’s suspiciously strange how the Boogaloo Boys and all of these other redneck supremacist groups get no recognition for their crimes from a Representative like this. It only takes a simple Google search to see how these gangs have not just infiltrated many law enforcement precincts around the country, but also the sentiments of our current senile leader. “Antifa” has simply become a catch-all phrase boogeyman that easily satisfies tiny minds.

2) Left wing and right wing protesters out. Result: Riots, more violence.
3) Right wing protesters out, nobody else. Result: Peace, no garbage left behind.

I’ve never seen White Supremists or any “right wingers” descend on someone’s property and loot it to smitherines. Check out the photos of those who are looting. Lots of those around.
It’s the White Supremists who rush to protect the properties being looted by the ghetto rat fink scumbags.
This is at least an attempt to the financed radicals to rethink their actions before looting, burning, and terrorizing communities. It will probably be challenged it court for years as stated by the previous comment. Thus, more wasted time and paper with little immediate results.

Before you get too caught up in the current fashion of hurling silly insults at each other, realize that this is merely a bill introduced by one Congressmen – not actual legislation. It’s chance of being passed by the House of Representatives is extremely low. Rep. Banks knows that. As usual, the real purpose is just political theater so he can go back to his perceived constituency and say “I tried.” Just chill out.
