One Person Killed After Vehicle Collision on Cherry Lane in Walnut Creek

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal vehicle collision Monday night in Walnut Creek.

The incident was first reported at about 9:20 p.m. near the corner of Treat Blvd. and Cherry Ln. in an unincorporated area, CHP officials said.

The cause of the collision is currently under investigation, and the name of the person who died has not been released at this time.

According to Walnut Creek Police:

On 10/31/17 at 9:19PM our officers, along with Contra Costa Consolidated Fire and CHP responded to a traffic collision between a Ford sedan and Toyota SUV on Treat Blvd between Sheppard Rd and Cherry Ln.

Upon arrival our offiicers found the male adult driver of the Ford trapped inside and the driver of the SUV outside of his car with moderate injuries. The driver of the Ford died at the scene and the driver of the Toyota was transported by ambulance for treatment.

Witnesses report the Ford was traveling westbound on Treat Blvd at a high speed before entering the center divide, rolling several times, and entering the opposite lane of traffic where it was struck broadside by the Toyota.

Officers from the WCPD Major Accident Investigation Team were called out to investigate the collision. The final collision cause will be dependent on toxicology results from the coroner’s office.
