by ECT

On May 18 around 7:20 PM the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the 1300 Block of Pepperwood Springs Road in Piercy CA related to a missing adult female. Deputies responded and learned the missing person (MP) was a 76 year old female by the name of Margit Prichard.

According to family, Margit has been experiencing dementia related issues. Margit is very fit and can walk long distances with ease, having recently disappeared from her home (3 months prior) and traveling 7 miles on foot.

Margit was last seen at her residence around 1 PM the afternoon of 5/18/2018. Around 4:30 PM her husband discovered her missing and conducted his own search of their property, nearby neighbors and local roads before calling MCSO for assistance. Margit was last seen wearing blue capris style pants and a purple T-shirt. She did not take her phone or purse with her when she left.

Mendocino County Sheriff’s deputies searched the area Friday night with a blood hound. The Mendocino County Search and Rescue (SAR) Team responded on Saturday to search the area in the daylight but Margit was not located. The Search has continued on Sunday and again on Monday with 70 searchers responding on Sunday.

The following agencies have assisted in this search.

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Humboldt County Search and Rescue, California Highway Patrol (Patrol and Helicopter), CAL FIRE , Piercy Volunteer Fire Department , Leggett Valley Fire Department , Marin County Search and Rescue, California Explorer Search and Rescue, Lake County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, Napa County SAR, San Mateo County Sheriff’s Mounted Search and Rescue Unit , Bay Area Mountain Rescue Unit (BAMRU) , California State Parks, Sonoma County Search & Rescue, CARDA – California Rescue Dog Association , California National Guard, Cal OES Law Division and Southern Humboldt County Technical Rescue Team.

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office wants to ask the cooperation of and assure local residents, in the Piercy Area that all efforts in that area are being conducted by Search and Rescue personnel and are in no way associated with marijuana eradication.

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office learned Margit may try to go to the East Bay Area where she used to live, specifically Bethel Island.

A Silver Alert has been issued in the north state. If you have seen Margit or might have information as to her location please contact the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center at 707-463-4086.

I hope she’s found safe and sound. Hopefully, she doesn’t walk too far away.
