Martinez Police Catch Walmart Robber; Recover Weapon And Cash Tuesday

Martinez Police arrested a 23-year-old parolee after an attempted armed robbery at the Wal-Mart store in Martinez Tuesday morning.

On December 22 at 10:53 am, Martinez Police received a 911 call from Walmart located at 1021 Arnold Dr, advising of an armed robbery that just occurred.

Martinez-PoliceThe caller said a subject approached the counter and brandished a firearm forcing the clerk to give him the money in the register. The suspect was described as a light skinned male with blond hair, wearing sun glasses. The suspect exited the store and was observed getting into a red Jeep Wrangler with paper plates.

As Martinez Police responded to Walmart, the suspect vehicle was observed by police and the vehicle quickly fled east on Highway 4.

An Martinez Police officer then initiated a pursuit of the vehicle. The suspect vehicle exited the highway, and the pursuit continued on city streets. The pursuit was concluded in the 3900 block of Camino Del Sol, after the Martinez-PD-fencesuspect attempted to drive through a cyclone fencing at the dead of the street, disabling his vehicle.

At the conclusion of the pursuit, the suspect threw a handgun out of the vehicle prior to being taken into custody.

The gun and a large sum of cash was recovered at the scene.

The suspect was later identified as 24 yr old Michael Garcia, who is currently on parole.

Garcia was later booked into county jail for robbery, evading, parole violation, and other gun related charges. Garcia is believed to be responsible for another robbery of a Walmart Store in Tracy, Ca earlier this morning.
