by ECT

The Martinez Police Department announced Friday that they have arrested a 40-year-old man who allegedly threatened a juvenile while holding a razor at the time of the incident.

According to police, they received a call from a staff member at Vicente High School at roughly 1:54 pm.  The adult suspect left the area after a verbal exchange with the student, and the student was not injured.

At the time of the call, the student was in the school building with the staff member. This incident occurred across the street from the school and did not occur on the Vicente campus.

Upon receiving the call, officers were dispatched to the school and were able to determine the identity of the adult suspect. Officers then responded to the 1600 block of LaSalle Street to contact the suspect.

Police said initially, the suspect refused to exit his residence to speak with officers, so LaSalle Street between Warren Street and Arreba Street was blocked off to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic while officers negotiated with the suspect. At approximately 2:17pm, the suspect voluntarily exited his residence and was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect, Gilbert Rodriguez, a 40-year-old Martinez resident, was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility for charges of brandishing and cruelty to a child.
