Local Oath of Office Ceremony Held for Congressman DeSaulnier

by ECT

Concord, CA – Tuesday evening, Congressman George Miller (Ret.) administered a ceremonial Oath of Office to Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11) in the Concord City Council chambers. Attending the ceremony were constituents and local officials from the 11th Congressional District.

“It is a great honor to administer the Oath of Office at tonight’s District Swearing-in. For the past 40-years I had the privilege of representing California’s 11th Congressional District. This is a great district marked with both beauty and diversity. I now have the honor of passing the torch to an accomplished public servant, a leader, and a longtime friend, Congressman Mark DeSaulnier. I am confident that Mark will fulfill his Oath of Office by working hard everyday on behalf of the residents of Contra Costa County,” said Congressman George Miller.

“While I was officially sworn into office in Washington D.C., it means the world to me to have a special ceremony in Concord where I raised my two sons, opened a small business, and served as a local elected official and as Mayor. To be here surrounded by constituents and colleagues, and for my mentor George Miller to administer the Oath of Office, is something I will remember for the rest of my life,” said Congressman Mark DeSaulnier. “I am honored to represent Concord and all of the communities of the 11th District in Congress. I take this responsibility seriously and will work hard for our families and our communities.”

“As a resident of Concord and a former Concord City Councilmember, I’m very proud of our city and the fact that Mark DeSaulnier will be the first resident in the city’s history to serve in Congress.  He is an outstanding public servant whose extensive legislative experience will serve all the residents of his district well.  We will support his fight to improve our transportation systems and protect our environment, while always putting middle class and working families first,” said Assembly Member Susan Bonilla who represents Concord in the 14th Assembly District.

“I have known Mark Desaulnier for over 20 years when he first ran for Concord City Council.  I have been very pleased to see his progress in the Board of Supervisors, the State Assembly and the State Senate.  I’m very pleased that Mark will now serve his constituents in the Congress and look forward to great programs to come from this gifted legislator,” said Concord Councilman Dan Helix.

“Mark has demonstrated the ability to accomplish things in the political system and compassion for his constituents which will make for an excellent representative of the people’s business in Washington. I look forward to supporting him in the future as he diligently strives to improve the lives of the people he serves,” said former Concord Mayor Ron Mullin.

“Mark DeSaulnier is not only a passionate advocate for California families, but he is one of the sincerely nice ones,” said former Contra Costa County Registrar of Voters Steve Weir, who also served on the Concord City Council with DeSaulnier.

At the ceremony, Steve Weir served as the Master of Ceremonies and Mayor Tim Grayson offered opening remarks. Concord Boy Scout Troop #465, led by Mike Roark, served as Color Guard and Jason Warrenburg, a student at Los Medanos Community College, sang the National Anthem.
