Livermore: Man Stabs Grandmother to Death, Mother Also Stabbed

Livermore Police say a 35-year-old man suffering from mental illness stabbed his grandmother to death while also stabbing his mother on Nov 9.

According to Livermore Police, they responded to the 5300 block Hillflower Driver for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at 7:38 pm.

When officers arrived on scene, they located two female residents with various stab wounds.  The suspect had fled the residence prior to the Livermore Police Department’s arrival.

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect, Tyler Haskell (35 years), stabbed his grandmother and mother with a kitchen knife.  Haskel’s grandmother (85 years) succumbed to her injuries, and his mother (62 years) had non-life threatening injures.

Officers searched the surrounding area and located Haskell approximately one mile away in the 1300 block of North Vasco Road.  Haskell was arrested without incident.

The motive for the stabbing is unknown and Haskell reportedly suffers from various mental illnesses.

Victim identities:

  • Joan Lininger (85 years) – Lininger succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
  • Karla Haskell (62 years) – Haskell was treated at an area hospital for a laceration to her arm and later released.
