by ECT

Welcome to the  East County Fishing report provided by Dan Mathisen of Dan’s Delta Outdoors in Oakley. Each Thursday, Dan will provide fishing reports of what to expect around the Delta.

Happenings Here in East County this Weekend

Yak-a-Bass launches Tournament this weekend out of Big Break Marina. Big Break continues to recover with the new ownership group bringing the marina back to life. Yak-a-Bass will draw anglers and there Kayaks to “The Break” . Should be a lot of fun as they have reported many solid limits as they practiced the last few day.

The 15th Annual C.O.Pro-Teen Classic will take off this Sunday down at Russo’s Marina on the Delta. This pro-am style event introduces teens, ages 13-19, to tournament bass fishing. 78 teens from San Diego to Quincy, Ca will be teamed up with local tournament pros, club and weekend anglers in an exciting pro-am style event. We are still looking for additional boaters to come help us out to assure all these teens and any that show up Sunday morning are able to get into the event. We provide a vallet launch and parking, huge BBQ to all participants, full production weigh-in and a giant raffle after the awards. C’mon out and joins us, you’ll have a ball and be amazed at the rewarding experience with these young kids! Fishing Reports

Isleton   Although as the temperatures cooled a bit this week and boat traffic slowed summer smallmouth bite is decent. Smallmouth are a great target species this time of year that can help you beat the summer doldrums . Wadda Jigs, and Plastics are good choices here for the hard fighting smallies. Looked for a few anxious Salmon anglers while there were a few looking didn’’t get any successful Salmon reports.

Walnut Grove  a Few Stripes are in the area as anglers recover from the furnace blast of heat in the Walnut Grove area as the trolling bite is OK mostly small fish. Best area has been Courtland to Walnut grove. The Sacramento Turning Basin is really the unsung hero here as there continues to be stripes caught there by lure tossers. Hair Jigs and small shad patterns are the top choices here as well. Bank anglers Pile worms and cut baits prevail.

ren-pb-spinnerbait-FishingDiscovery Bay  A few anglers are still scoring schoolie sized stripers in the Indian Creek side. Crankbaits are scoring bass on the main runway rock walls. Bass pushing the 4 to 6 mark are showing on occasion. While the winds have hampered there search a bit those targeting shaded current areas.

Speaking foe shade and current punching shade pockets in the junk. With the wind Spinnerbaits and buzzbaits getting hammered! Megastrike Buzz baits getting a lot of attention. Jig bite on points is also decent!

West Delta Anglers in search of stripers are finding the bite to be tough but still those who stick with it are getting small keepers on occasion from both boat and bank. From as far west as Honker Bay to the Broad Slough and Antioch pier persistent bait dunkers with Anchovies and Sardines ae finding fun action. Sturgeon success has come on the outgoing tide with pile worms, eel and roe. Broad Slough, Bouy 1 and Pittsburg PG&E are good bets. Not great by any means but a fun way to spend the Hot summer evenings.

Bass Bite stays solid in the Break and surrounding cuts. Punching jigs and Whopper Ploppers rocking the bass. Andrew Koyabashi Of Dan’s Delta Outdoors Staff landed a 13.3… Reported His IFB 72 MHC handled the big Girl well! Store Customer Ren Caught her Personal best spinnerbait tossing in The Sand Mound area.
