This week, Johnny Garlic’s at the Streets of Brentwood closed its doors for good with employees reportedly getting little to no notice of the move. In fact, many employees did not find out about the closure until the last day of operation.
This comes after rumors began 6-months ago of the restaurants closing.
The restaurant first opened in November of 2013 which included a partnership with Food Networks Guy Fieri, however, in early 2016, Fieri parted ways with business partner Steve Gruber.
In November of 2018, the Bakersfield location closed. The Brentwood location was the last remaining of the eight Johnny Garlic’s locations.
We would like to ask our audience, what would you like to see replace Johnny Garlic’s at the Streets of Brentwood?

Replace it with Better Service
The name of the restaurant alone was a turn off. I hate garlic! it’s taste and stench! I had to go there once to meet some friends for a drink. Never returned!
Texas Roadhouse
I would love to see an Original Joe’s Italian restaurant here!
Agreed
Old Spaghetti Factory
Yes, this is what I suggested on next door.com! Reasonable prices and great food!

Yes, this is what I suggested on next door.com! Reasonable prices and great food!
Olive Garden is FAKE Italian food. I had visitors from Italy and took them there and they about threw up after seeing what this place serves. It’s a franchise. No explanation needed.
Agree, no more bad franchises!! Something original, preferably a brew-pub.
Primavera there is one in San Roman so good!
cheesecake factory, sweet tomatos, bucca de bubos (sp).
Olive Garden, Carrabas, Bonefish Grill(soooo gooood!!) Cheesecake Factory,
OLIVE GARDEN is fake, crappy “Italian” food no Italian or anyone OF SOUND MIND would even consider! Besides, the one in Pittsburg is run by a THIEF who stole my wife’s gorgeous, Swiss hand-made, silk-and-cashmire scarf … I should have called the cops!
Cheesecake Factory
So
Service always sucked there. Original Joes is a great idea. My choices:
1. Fleming’s
2. Ruth’s Chris
We need a good ole school classy steakhouse/seafood.
Old Spaghetti Factory

An American Buffet
We need a FRIDAYS or Cheescake Factory
Cheesecake Factory
Bring back Grazis with the Nightclub
I miss Grazie! They were good. I had hoped they would find a different location and continue staying in business.
Old Spaghetti Factory, Macaroni Grill, Lucille’s
Zachary’s Pizza
World of Beer,
Mary’s Pizza Shack,
….
Anything that is NOT franchise based serving the same types of foods and apps as every other franchise based restaurant. Antioch and Brentwood are over saturated with these types of places it’s boring.
Thank you! Amen!
I’m afraid one of those franchise type places is the only that would last in that spot. No privately owned restaurant can afford it. Attra might be the exception but that’s yet to be seen.
Sauced
Lap dance bar
Lol
California Kitchen
A Cheesecake Factory
The entire “Streets of Brentwood” location need to be remodeled.
The owners need to take a trip to Meridian, Idaho and check out “The Village at Meridian”.
It’s upscale and super nice. Obviously better managed the the SOB money pit…
As for my pick on the restaurant.
I suggest the Yard House…
P.F. Chang’s
Please bring back Johnny Corinos,
We miss Johnny Carino’s . . . they had decent Bellinis. So, it’s Carino’s or a good German restaurant.
TEXAS ROAD HOUSE
Would be great to have in the area and plus that restraunt do great business its never a dull moment great food too
Replace it with cheese cake factory or PF Chang or some nice brewery
Sauced
Buca di beppo
Chick Fil A
A nice GERMAN restaurant so I don’t have to travel to San Francisco or San Jose for good German food.
Great suggestion! I love Leopold’s, but HATE San Francisco and don’t want my car windows smashed. German food is the way to go.
I agree, Alejandro! A good GERMAN restaurant with a beer hall would be wonderful. Other than Leopold’s and Teske’s Germania, there is one in Berkeley, but I HATE BERKELEY … the communist stronghold and won’t give them any of my business.
A German restaurant would be a great addition! I’m sick and tired of the Mex, Viet, Chinese, Thai crap! They could hold an OKTOBERFEST event there every year!
California Pizza Kitchen or Hard Rock Cafe
California Pizza Kitchen or Hard Rock Cafe!
We need a Sweet Tomatoes somewhere in Brentwood. Maybe not that spot but somewhere
Bruxie’s
Ike’s
Oasis (Greek restaurant in pleasanton)
Silk Road … like they have in Walnut Creek
Korean omg we need one so so so bad up here plzzzz we do not have any Variety up here ????????Chinese Mexican and hamburgers is all we have . we also need an Indian restaurant that’s really good bring some flair . We are terrible . Help
There is an Indian Food place next to Target, and one next to Postal Annex on Balfour. Geez, for someone who craves Indian Food, you don’t google fu much, do you?
A buffett
An Arby’s. As it is you have to drive to Flag City or Manteca . So it would be nice to see an Arby’s to where you didn’t have to drive so far.
You drive all the way to Manteca for an Arby’s sammich????? You’re obsessive…
There is one in Tracy and Stockton.
There’s an ARBY’S in San Jose, Sunnyvale, Fairfield
The Cheesecake Factory.
Close the whole “streets”!
Cheesecake Factory
Old Spaghetti Factory would be great, keeping in mind the size of the space we’re talking about. Unfortunately it’s going to have to be yet another boring chain restaurant with huge menus of mediocre food. Ugh.
In general, we really need more variety…definitely vegetarian, Korean, Thai and a Fresh Choice/Sweet Tomatoes type place.
Streets of Brentwood is a complete disaster, close it down. That filthy theater alone should be condemned from all the trash and gunk in there (remember, they were just hit by CoCoCo inspectors for this very thing, bad cleanliness habits). The idea of having it next to Hwy 4 to attract people was just dumb. They could have put it near downtown, it would have been great to put in on the property from Brentwood Blvd that runs West to O’Hara South of Technology Way (they had Corn Fest there once), and it would have enhanced the cities plan to revitalize the Brentwood Blvd corridor. But they put it out in Strip Mall Land near all the other box-store crap. As for restaurant to replace JGs? How about one that isn’t run by outlaw biker gang members for a start? And maybe think less “chain restaurant” (Old Spaghetti Factory, really???) and more “independent” (and less “cafeteria food” like) like some have suggested , perhaps maybe a nice Micro-Brewery or Distillery eatery type place… but not at Streets. Let’s close that place down. And while were at it in redesigning Brentwood, we need a Costco, but near the South side of town, so that it’s less of a draw from our neighbors to the West along Hwy 4. And replace the old Safeway on 2nd street with a Trader Joes, and maybe force that company that owns that property to clean it up a bit, maybe run CVS out of there and get a good children’s Gym or something. I could go on, there are a lot of things we need in Brentwood… but Old Spaghetti Factory or PF Changs aint one of them…
You mad bro?
You related to the guy constantly complaining on Nextdoor about the 7-11 on Laurel?
Please open a casual or fine dining place that specializes in seafood. Johnny Garlic’s menu went down the toilet when Guy sold it.
Chris & Pitts
Veggie Grill! (a vegan restaurant) It’s about time brentwood has one.
TRUE FOODS KITCHEN!!!
How about we tear down the old k-mart and level that whole plaza and put back the drive in moving theatre. I hate driving to concord to watch a drive in. There are enough people that live in this area that will bring in business. I wish I had business partners to have the funds to make this happen
California Pizza Kitchen
Ruth Chris or cheesecake factory
Bring back the drive in…..
Let’s put up a vegan restaurant!!! We can name it “Fucking Hippies” than we can all cut off our balls and tuck our dicks and name ourselves Jazz. It will be the first Gender Neutral restaurant for trannys looking to meet BLM members so they can kill each other. Don’t forget to shop at the overly priced grocery store!!! Sprouts
You are one angry thing…so sorry!
The drive in was awesome!! I had good times there as a kid.
CPK or PF Chang’s!
TGIF
Yard House or Blue Martini
Yard House or Blue Martini
Lazy dogs
A library
Cheesecake factory or Texas roadhouse
California Pizza Kitchen
Besides a good replacement for Johhny garlic at the Streets, Brentwood needs an expo center with a nice indoor events/concert/dancing hall, and year-round roller skating and ice skating rinks.
Not surprised. Maybe the Street’s ownership can come up with a creative plan for a replacement. Here’s an idea – how about replacing this sub par restaurant with an apartment or two ? Brilliant !
maybe our city can help the Street’s ownership to plan for an apartment or two !
Yeah build apartments for low income families, than watch the streets become the Antioch Mall. Let’s reward lazy assholes with nice living arrangements. Look at the low income scum apartments in Oakley behind Raleys shopping center. That is a wonderful place!!! Just put in a restaurant that isn’t over priced for shit food and that is family friendly. Get rid of Mel’s diner that place is garbage. But I do however love the Fenton’s idea
P.F. Chang’s would be great
Lazy dog
just an old fashion Hauf Brau, like the one that closed down a few years back on lone tree…
Tom, it’s Hofbrau and I agree. That’s why I’d love to see a good GERMAN restaurant! German cuisine is fantastic! Their beer if THE best in the world. I vote for something along the lines of LEOPOLD’s (Russian Hill, San Francisco).
Sauced, please
Bottom line is food service is a terrible business to be in. Those with the $$$ to open up aren’t committed and want to no work and pay lowly gophers to bust their ass. Few do it well for long.
I vote a Chevys!! They still make those?
How about everyone go back where they came from. If you had it there why’d you come here
The problem, Bye, is that we didn’t have it there! That’s why we came here (Thank you, Christopher Columbus). I’d love to see a REAL French bistro . . . like the one that used to be in Pleasanton. I brought French visitors there and they were amazed.
Ha yeah no kidding. All the new locals with their demands. Waaa it’s not like we’re I used to live. Poor babies. ?
I came here from Los Angeles! Seventh generation CALIFORNIAN!
An Irish style pub with decent Guinness. The nearest such thing is in Jack London Sq.
The ONLY decent Irish pubs are in Ireland! The American versions suck! If an entire Irish pub could be disassembled and transported here via ship and the reassembled properly, then we’d have a real IRISH pub with the little separate rooms .. and the ambiance which characterize it.
The Hop Yard Alehouse & Grill! Great Menu!! Great Brews too!!
A locally owned restaurant that has excellent, sophisticated food and professional, thoughtful service – not another cookie-cutter chain restaurant
Yeah you bought in the wrong town for sure.
Zephrys – they have a great menu and good bar, for relaxing.
“Zephrys?” Where’s that? I thought the name is ZEPHYRS — named after the WINDS! Do they serve a lot of beans?
The Cheesecake Factory!
Lots of great ideas, but what restaurant can survive there? The Streets has become a joke. It lost the Art, Wine, and Jazz Festival. It lost Banana Republic and its anchor, REI. It just lost its ice rink. And now they have a really sad kiddie train and hang onto horrific restaurants like Mel’s. It has tons of stores that don’t draw a crowd. And the kicker? Low income apartments coming. Hooray!
If you build it they will come! (DRIVE In Movie Theatre)
Most suggestions r good, however big box retailers will not come to Brentwood. U have knock off restaurants. Your Cheesecake Factory is bj’s. Your Texas Roadhouse lol is black angus! Sprouts poor man Whole Foods. Chick-fil-A my vote. Developers should have brought Macy’s, jc penny’s and Costco. Then u would have seen growth, instead retailers will continue to leave. Very poor planning by city officials.
Peruvian food ? we need something different.
The Cheesecake Factory!
Spaghetti Factory, Cheesecake Factory or Texas Roadhouse
Yardhouse!!!
A GERMAN RESTAURANT! Let’s have some REAL food for a change, not that wishy-washy stuff they try to pass for food!
Everyone that keeps saying Cheesecake Factory….you do realize that this building is about a third the size of any Cheesecake Factory in the country right? It would never work in that space. You’d go for dinner and there would be a four hour wait!
Not everyone. Read the postings more carefully
I didn’t say everyone Grace. I said everyone that keeps saying it. Maybe you should have read MY post more carefully!
Sorry, Jack .. You’re right. My apologies.
For a casual, drop-in meal, I really miss UNO PIZZERIA & GRILL! Rattlesnake pasta! Lemon Drop Martini! Salads with watermelon included. Yummm! Why they went out of business is a mystery. There were always people eating in that establishment. Maybe it’s the location. When I heard they were closing, I was hoping they would relocate to Streets of Brentwood.
However, you can’t cry over spilled milk. If UNOS can’t return, then I’ll go for GERMAN restaurant any day.
I greatly miss Uno Pizzeria and Grill as well. I liked their ambiance, salads, pastas and pizzas. The drinks were excellent. I wish I could find whoever ran it and try to talk them into reopening. I know of a number of people who also miss it.
Eureka
California Pizza Kitchen….PLEASE!!! They have a varied menu with something for everyone at reasonable prices and creative yummy cocktails. Also good for adult only or family dining.
I think if they took most of the ideas here and put them in the old REI or whatever it was (where spirit goes in October) they could accommodate most of the suggestions. But will large staple chains really want to be on a corner that shares that tiny lot with BJ’s that’s always full during dining hours? There is a lot of vacancies in that center as a whole (and across the street as well) and its going to take much more to fulfill it. Just look on yelp for any dining facility in that area. Red Robin is getting that same reviews as JG was. Baja Fresh it so hit or miss and I’ve personally experienced the same at BJ’s & Black Angus. The theatres food was just shut down by the health inspector (JG’s was too not that long ago) Service is killing the food establishments in the area more than anything. Understaffed and overworked and you cant even get a refill. Whoever takes on the challenge would need to stay on top of their staff. We just keep finding ourselves driving out to Walnut Creek before considering anything around here.
I really don’t care what will be put in Johnny Garlic’s place, because we head for Walnut Creek or Lafayette to dine and have fun. It feels good to “get out of Dodge” for a few hours.
Damn, glad I left Brentwood! Nothing but a bunch of peasants left there ?
What about a crepevine or Greek restaurant
There are lots of good suggestions but I think Yard House would awesome!
Cicis pizza! Discussion closed
Cheesecake Factory or P.F. Changs would be great but the space a way too small (kitchen/dining area) for places like that. A Peruvian restaurant or good Indian would be good.
The problem with The Cheesecake Factory is that the employees there “cut the cheese.” Ewwww!
I’ve eaten food in Peru and it’s nothing to write home about. Now, the Pisco is OK.
Brazilian Steak House!
German restaurant sounds good. The one in Berkeley and always packed. Anything to get away from Thai, Vietnmese, Korean non-food.
I agree! Sick of that Oriental crap and Mexican flatus-generating food.
The only place in that entire center worth going to is CreAsian.
Throw a Taco Bell Cantina in there and call it a day.
It’s too bad the Harry’s Hofbrau didn’t last. Growing up on the Peninsula, it was to goto place with the family for dinner. Yeah it was different with it’s “cafeteria style” but the food was awesome with it’s hand carved meats! Was so excited when it opened in Brentwood but it was short lived as I don’t even think it was open a full year before Buffalo Wild Wings replaced it. Still try to hit up the Redwood City location whenever I am in the area…
i think a Tarantino’s Restaurant
Sweet Tomatoes or Ramen Nagi
Sauced, Planks (like at Jack London Square, though would be better in the spot where the Halloween store goes,) or Lazy Dog (like in Concord.)
