Inflation-based BART Fare Increase Takes Effect January 1

by ECT

Bay Area Rapid Transit announced that a 5.4% inflation-based fare increase will take effect on January 1, 2020.

The BART Trip Planner and Fare Calculator was updated with new fares and all new revenue from this fare increase goes to BART’s highest priority capital needs including new Fleet of the Future cars and a new train control system to provide more frequent service.

BART says the inflation based fare increases has been in place since 2003 and raises fares every other year. Paper ticket fares will continue to have a 50 cent per trip surcharge. Riders are encouraged to use Clipper and save.

BART will participate in the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s Regional Means-Based Fare Discount Pilot Program expected to begin in early 2020. The program will offer a 20% discount per trip to adult riders earning 200% or less of the federal poverty level.

Youth 5-18 years old get 50% off with a youth Clipper card. Seniors age 65 and over get 62.5% off with a Senior Clipper card. Learn more.

Wow, 5.4% increase for horrid service. I’m already spending $12.00 a day plus parking, etc. Total rip off. BART is only good for its employees.

The lazy bums will probably get an increase! I’m no longer going to take BART anywhere. It’s cheaper to drive and I won’t be putting myself in danger from ghetto trash trying to take my cell and laptop

Check your social security check to see if it went up 5.4 percent . I don’t think so . I wonder if the bart employees are going to get 5.4 percent raise . Probably 8 to 10 percent . Your getting suckered.
